No external exams took place in the Summer of 2021. Instead Y11 & Y13 pupils undertook a series of internal assessments which will help to determine which GCSE and A-level grades they should be awarded. These grades will be shared with the pupils on the following dates:
A-level – Tues 10th August
GCSE – Thurs 12th August
Most year groups have now completed all of their internal exams, but Year 12 will sit theirs in the week beginning June 28th. The timetable is as follows: Year 12 Exam Timetable
General Exam notes
There are many reasons why pupils are expected to sit internal exams, but they can be summed up as follows:
- To help pupils become increasingly familiar with the process of taking exams so that this is much less daunting when they come to sit their GCSEs and A-levels.
- To help pupils understand how to prepare for and review exams effectively so that they know how to get the best out of themselves.
- To give pupils, parents and teachers a realistic understanding of current progress, and to help them identify ways to improve this in the future.
- To help pupils and parents identify appropriate avenues to pursue once the current phase of learning comes to an end.
Our teachers understand that pupils appreciate guidance in how to prepare for and complete their exams, and they always provide a lot of support with this. Parents who would like to know more about what is being assessed will find outlines of all our courses in the various departmental pages under the “Curriculum” tab on our website. These also contain links to external websites which pupils might find useful.
We are very mindful that exams put pupils under pressure, and our PSHE programme contains sessions about how to revise and how to cope with this pressure. Parents who would like to know more about how to support their children during exam periods may find the following video helpful:
